Marshall Lumber Co.

Marshall Lumber Co. is a full product line lumber and hardware business, and also offers knuckle boom, crane,  and forklift service with yards at New Salem, Mandan, and Glen Ullin.  The pictures above were taken during construction of a new lumber warehouse in New Salem.  The business was started in the early 1960’s as an Owatonna implement dealership by Marshall Feland.  in 1970 the former Willman Lumber Co. of Almont was purchased for Marshall’s expanding swather business, and area people requested that he continue the sale of lumber, creating Almont Lumber & Equipment Co.  In 1980 a yard was opened in Carson, ND and the business was renamed to better fit growing into other communities.  In 1983 Peavey Co. exited the lumber business and the Glen Ullin yard was purchased.  In 1985 another former Peavey Co yard in New Salem operated by KD Lumber was purchased, and Marshall’s son Clint, who grew up in the business, eagerly went to work in that yard becoming manager in 1987.  In 1991 Clint purchased the former Gambles building from Lloyd Just and Edgar Schwagler and expanded into the Hardware Hank line.  In 1992 Marshall and LaVyrl moved to Mandan when Marshall purchased the Jennings Lumber Co., and they continue to operate from that location.  In the picture at top Clint is operating the crane setting rafters, and Marshall is observing in the foreground.
